Cellulite

Cellulite refers to deposits of body fat, especially on the buttocks, legs, and thighs. Found more on men than women, due to the genetic make up of the female hormones, even those with a slim figure often complain about cellulite external visible symptoms — its lumpy, dimpled.

Cellulite appears in the subcutaneous level of skin tissue especially on the hips, buttocks and legs. As water is retained, fat cells held within the perimeters of tissues called septre expand and stretch the connective tissue. Eventually the tissue contracts and hardens (sclerosis) holding the skin at a non-flexible length and at the same time, the surrounding tissue continues to expand with weight, or water gain. This makes areas of the skin being held down while other sections bulge outward, resulting in the lumpy, 'cottage-cheese' appearance.

People with more body fat tend to have more problems with cellulite. However, being overweight does not cause cellulite commonly, but maintaining weight does help improve its appearance.
